Early NSDAP SA Treffen Braunschweig 1931 Tinnie - A pre-WWII commemorative tinnie badge issued for the SA Treffen (rally) held in Braunschweig, 17/18 October 1931. The badge features an eagle atop an oak leaf wreath encircling a swastika, with raised lettering reading 'S-A TREFFEN BRAUNSCHWEIG 17/18 OKTOBER 1931', and a bow motif at the base. Constructed of a lightweight white-metal alloy believed to be typical of tinnies of this era.The Sturmabteilung (SA) was the NSDAP's paramilitary organisation, formed in the early 1920s and used for street violence, intimidation, and mass demonstrations during the party's rise to power. Braunschweig held particular significance for the Nazi movement in this period, as the state government's 1932 appointment of Hitler as a civil servant there granted him German citizenship, enabling his political candidacy. Such tinnies were inexpensive commemorative badges sold to attendees of party rallies and musters to fund the movement and mark participation, this example predating the NSDAP's seizure of power in 1933 by roughly eighteen months.
