Third Reich Afrika Korps Ring - A cast metal ring featuring an oval bezel with a shield-shaped panel bearing a raised swastika, surrounded by a rope-twist border. The shoulders show engraved foliate/eagle-form decoration and the metal displays a mixed tone consistent with a base metal appearing to be silver-washed with brass or bronze highlights. No maker marks or hallmarks are visible in the photos. No purity or manufacturer stamps observed. The Deutsches Afrikakorps was formed in early 1941 under the command of General Erwin Rommel to support Italian forces in North Africa, and became renowned for its mobile desert campaigns against British and Commonwealth troops until the Axis surrender in Tunisia in May 1943. Commemorative and unofficial rings of this type were produced during and after the war as personal mementoes or veteran items, often privately commissioned rather than officially issued. Such pieces were popular among soldiers and later collectors as symbols of service in the North African theatre, though they were not standard-issue military decorations.
