German Third Reich Board Game ”Gemeinnutz geht vor Eigennutz” by Alfred Werner - A National Socialist-era board game (Nationales Lehrspiel für Groß und Klein) titled ”Gemeinnutz geht vor Eigennutz!” featuring a swastika-form game board with colored pip tracks in yellow, blue, green, and pink/red. The illustrated box lid depicts a stylized silhouette of the Reichstag building beneath a large sun/wheel motif in orange, black, and yellow tones. Signed ”Alfred Werner” in the lower corner of the board and again on the box cover. The phrase ”Gemeinnutz geht vor Eigennutz” (”common good before self-interest”) was a central National Socialist slogan, drawn from the 25-point NSDAP programme of 1920 and heavily promoted through propaganda, education, and organisations such as the Winterhilfswerk to encourage collective sacrifice for the community and the state. Board games and other educational toys of this kind were produced during the Third Reich as instruments of everyday indoctrination, embedding ideological values into children's leisure and family life alongside more overtly militaristic or racial-propaganda games. The swastika-shaped board layout reflects the regime's practice of integrating its symbols into ordinary domestic objects to normalise National Socialist iconography.
