German NSDAP Propaganda-Overprinted 1000 Mark Reichsbanknote - A genuine 15 September 1922 Reichsbanknote for 1000 Mark, series Xb 070688 NF, printed by the Reichsbankdirektorium, later used as the base note for an early National Socialist propaganda overprint. The reverse bears black printed propaganda text and imagery including 'Eine Überraschung', a swastika encircled with 'Hitler / Nationalsozialismus', a caricature figure, and rhyming political slogans urging 'Volksgenossen! Kommt zu Hitler, werdet Nationalsozialisten!' This type of overprinted note was distributed as an early Party propaganda/agitation piece using genuine period currency as the printing medium.
