Frame: Framed. Provenance: Private ownership, Germany. In his own way, Pietro della Vecchia was a genius of his time. With brushstrokes that were sometimes sensual, sometimes rapid, he imitated the greats of the Venetian Renaissance such as Giorgione and Titian, or depicted the grotesque side of humanity. The artist depicted the theme of teachers with their pupils on several occasions, both ironically and in a gentler, more temperate manner (in this case, to illustrate the age differences).
