Jacob Samuel Beck: Portrait of a Lady as a Pilgrim - BECK, JACOB SAMUEL Erfurt 1715 - 1778 Title: Portrait of a Lady as a Pilgrim. Date: Ca. 1740/45 (?). Technique: Oil on canvas. Mounting: Relined. Measurement: In oval 64.5 x 54.5cm. Frame: Framed. Certifiate: Helmut Börsch-Supan, Berlin 14th February 2013 (in copy). Provenance: Private ownership, Germany. In his expert opinion, Börsch-Supan points out the striking resemblance between the young lady depicted here and a companion of Imperial Count Gustav Adolf von Gotter (1692-1762). This young woman (unfortunately unknown) is depicted in a painting by Jacob Samuel Beck, now in Sanssouci Palace, showing the count in pilgrim's garb. In addition to the similarity between the two figures, the stylistics of the two paintings and the precise reproduction of the scallop shells and fabrics are also striking.
