LARGE WOODEN MISSAL CASKET - LARGE WOODEN MISSAL CASKET. Paris. Date: Ca. 1500. Technique: Wooden centre with leather covering, silk or silk velvet, iron. Lined inside with reddish leather. Description: Rectangular body with a stepped raised centre. Iron bands riveted lengthwise on the hinged lid. Two loop loops on each side. A double hasp with a tree-shaped relief on the front of the narrow side of the lock. Flanked by two square fields with openwork ornamentation and two column-like centrepieces. Measurement: 14x22x32cm. Mark: Inside collection label ”St. John and Cicely Hornby No C117”. Without key. Provenance: Private collection Lower Rhine.
