TEA BOWL AND SAUCER WITH THE TIEPOLO COAT OF ARMS - MEISSEN Title: TEA BOWL AND SAUCER WITH THE TIEPOLO COAT OF ARMS. Date: Porcelain ca. 1720, painting ca. 1728. Material: Porcelain, enriched in polychrome and gold, camaieu painting in purple. Measurement: Height (tea bowl) 4.2 cm, Ø (saucer) 12.5 cm. Mark: Incised mark in base (on both parts), on saucer faded number and letters in black. Description: A small, bell-shaped tea bowl on a short stand. Decorated with the Tiepolo family coat of arms; on the reverse, a quatrefoil medallion featuring chinoiserie in camaieu purple. At the base, a round medallion with a double line in iron red, containing an East Asian floral design. Accompanied by a matching saucer with a gently rising rim. The interior features a coat of arms. The rim features a finely painted lace border in gold, iron red and purple. Another example with identical decoration is in the British Museum, London. Another tea bowl with Tiepolo coat of arms, decorated with maritime trade scenes rather than chinoiserie and of a later date, can be found in the collection of the Bavarian National Museum in Munich.
