Large, early coin scale - VON DÜSSEL , GERARD Cologne Title: Large, early coin scale. Date: Dated 1595. Material: A box made of pear wood. An iron balance with brass pans and green cords. Brass weights. Measurement: 3 x 25 x 12 cm. Mark: On the inside of the lid, inscribed: ‘(...) Gerard von Düssel, wheelwright in Cöllen, in the small Boltegaße, 1595’. Description: A large, rectangular box with ornamental embossed and engraved decoration. Inside the drawer, marked with weights in black ink, are 36 weights bearing coin designs. In a small compartment are 4 balancing weights; the sliding lid for this has been lost. The beam balance has one round and one triangular pan. A pair of tweezers is inserted into the side.
