Large coin scale - HEUSCHER , JACOBUS Cologne Title: Large coin scale. Date: Dated 1699. Material: A box made of pear wood. An iron balance with brass pans and green cords. Brass weights. Measurement: 2,5 x 25 x 13 cm. Mark: On the inside of the lid, inscribed: ‘Wag und Gewicht macht M: Jacobus im Daell Anno 1699’. Description: A large, rectangular box with ornamental embossed and engraved decoration. Inside the drawer, 40 weights bearing coin designs, with their weights marked in black ink. Two counterweights beneath the lid. The beam balance features one round and one triangular weighing pan. A pair of tweezers is inserted at the side. In addition to the original maker’s mark: “This balance and weights improved by M: Johan Baptista Cöllen, resident at Kester in Cöllen. Anno 1781”. Provenance: - Old Private Collection, Rhineland.
