Early tapestry with a figurative scene - PRESUMABLY BRUSSELS Title: Early tapestry with a figurative scene. Date: First quarter of the 16th century. Material: Wool and silk in earth-toned polychromy. Lined with linen. Measurement: 258×212 cm. Description: The surrounding border features pomegranate vines alternating with floral tendrils. In between are small rectangular panels depicting birds. The central scene shows a tightly packed group of various figures. The lady in the foreground on the left stands out particularly because of the colour of her courtly gown. Standing in front of her is a smaller male figure. Condition: The border later, as well as the figure on the right. Provenance: - Held for over 30 years by a foundation administered by the City of Mannheim (previously in private ownership in Mannheim). Literature: Delmarcel, Guy: Flemish Tapestry, London 1999.
