Unusual tapestry with biblical scene - BRÜSSEL Title: Unusual tapestry with biblical scene. Date: First quarter of the 16th century. Designer: Probably Willem de Pannemaker. Material: Wool and silk in earth-toned polychromy. Lined with linen. Measurement: 267 x 409 cm. Mark: On the bottom left edge, the Brussels city mark ‘BB’ is woven in. In the bottom right-hand corner, probably the also woven in mark of Wilhelm de Pannemaker. Description: The surrounding border features dense garlands of flowers and fruit with ribbon bows. These include carnations, apples and irises. The central scene depicts a dramatic scene with numerous figures. In the foreground is a man in elaborate armour; a woman seeking shelter from him stands beside him.
