His works have been exhibited internationally at numerous institutions, including the Kunstmuseum Luzern, and are represented in public and private collections. A characteristic feature is the combination of representational depiction and deliberate painterly disruption, which positions the image between clarity and dissolution. The 2017 painting “Girl in a Tree” depicts a female figure integrated into a landscape setting. Wide, horizontally applied bands of color traverse the entire picture plane and overlay the depiction. The figure remains recognizable in its basic features but is partially dissolved by the shifted and blurred sections. The color palette is dominated by muted browns, grays, and whites, which are accentuated by lighter areas around the face and skin, highlighting individual zones. The surface is applied in a thick, impasto style, with clearly visible brushstrokes that make the horizontal movement of the composition apparent. The blurring extends across the entire picture plane and structures the image in uniform bands. This creates a clear, recurring principle of order that guides perception. The motif remains present, yet is simultaneously partially obscured, creating a relationship between visibility and dissolution. Within Denzler’s oeuvre, this work belongs to a phase in which he consistently employs horizontal reworking and refines its formal aspects.
