Westendorp Osieck' r.o. The Rotterdam artist Henriette Reuchlin-Lucardie was a close friend of Betsy Westendorp and oral tradition says they travelled a lot together. This portrait has not appeared on the art market before: Reuchlin-Lucardie is the grandmother of the current owner and the work was inherited in 1980. As an artist, Reuchlin-Lucardie was versatile: besides being a painter, she was also a watercolourist, draughtsman, etcher, lithographer and engraver. Her works include pen drawings, wood and copper engravings, portraits, still lifes (including flowers) and Indonesian landscapes. Her visual work is partly in family possession and partly kept in Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam and Stedelijk Museum Schiedam. She married in Rotterdam on 28 March 1901 to jonkheer Maarten Reuchlin (Rotterdam 5 January 1873-Davos 26 April 1925), a Rotterdam wine merchant. Watercolour, c. 36 x 25.5 cm (frame: 54 x 43.2 cm).
