Depiction of two knights at a tournament fighting with a lance. Both are about to fall from their horses, at the top with a short text and names, on the right and left with the respective coats of arms (Bavaria and Württemberg) of the knights. From the tournament book of Duke William the Fourth of Bavaria from 1510 to 1545. Dimensions: frame dimensions approx. 66.5 x 34.5 cm, image dimensions approx. 59 x 26 cm. Good condition with traces of age and use, colors darkened, with stains. The ”Turnierbuch Herzog Wilhelms IV. von Bayern” is one of the most famous and precious manuscripts in the holdings of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. It was lavishly reproduced by the brothers Theobald (1777-1845) and Clemens Senefelder (1788-1833) after permission was granted in 1817.
