Very finely painted picture of a European Roller (Coracias garrulus) on laid paper, watercolour and mixed media (gouache). Very precise anatomical detail, as is also known, for example, from the ornithologist Henry Eeles Dresser and was depicted by various illustrators and animal painters such as John Gerrard Keulemans, Joseph Wolf, Edward Neale or Archibald Thorburn.
