Authentic depiction of a tent camp with a central cooking area on the edge of an oasis in the desert. People, animals and various objects lend the picture a lively atmosphere. Mountains (Atlas Mountains?) can be seen in the background. Signed and dated in pencil lower left: B. Richter 1913, signed lower right: B. Richter. Dimensions: framed size approx. 67 x 56.5 cm, mat approx. 49.5 x 39 cm. In good condition with slight traces of age and use, with stains. Richter was born in Halle an der Saale in 1872. After studying in Leipzig, Weimar and Munich, he worked as an illustrator, architecture, landscape and genre painter. Richter achieved greater fame as one of the last German painters of the Orient. He traveled extensively throughout North Africa and the Middle East.
