Carl Spitz (1853-1937): ”In the dunes” - Carl Spitz (1853-1937): ”In the dunes” Oil on cardboard framed in a finely carved wooden frame decorated with gold paint. Depiction of several houses by the sea under a stormy gray sky. A flag flies on a pole above one of the houses. Signed lower left: C. Spitz, inscribed on the reverse: ”In den Dünen”. Measures approx. 30 x 25 cm with frame. In good condition with slight traces of age and use. Carl Spitz, also Karl Friedrich Ockert, was a German landscape and animal painter (1825 Dresden to 1899 Munich). He studied at the Dresden Academy of Art from 1841 and worked in Munich from 1853. In 1867 Franz Hanfstaengl published ”Ein Jagd-Album für Freunde des edlen Waidwerks”. He also created pictures in smoke painting.
