Clemens Fränkel (1872-1944), Coastal Landscape with Pine Trees - Clemens Fränkel (1872-1944), Coastal Landscape with Pine Trees Oil on canvas framed in a wooden frame painted in relief with gold paint. Depiction of a rocky coastal landscape with large pine trees in the foreground. Two shepherds are tending their sheep under the trees. Slightly impasto landscape painting in warm colors, worked in detail. Signed lower right: Clemens Fränkel Munich. Dimensions: frame dimensions approx. 93 x 69 cm, painting dimensions approx. 73 x 49 cm. In very good condition with slight traces of age, frame with paint abrasion. Clemens Fränkel ( June 11, 1872 in Frankfurt am Main - February 1944, presumably in Auschwitz) was a German landscape painter. Fränkel attended Heinrich Knirr's private painting school in Munich from 1898 to 1899. In October 1899, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he initially studied under Otto Seitz and Ludwig Schmid-Reutte, and later under Ludwig von Löfftz. After graduating from the academy, Fränkel went to Italy for a year in 1903.
