Wilhelm Brandenberg (1889-1975), Autumn Forest, 1920 - Wilhelm Brandenberg (1889-1975), Autumn Forest, 1920 Oil on canvas framed in a stuccoed wooden frame painted with gold paint. The depiction of a forest in late autumn is painted in many shades of brown and dark green. A couple is crossing it, with the woman riding a donkey led by the man. Signed lower right: W. Brandenberg 1920. Label on verso with information on artist and work. Dimensions: frame dimensions approx. 103 x 83.5 cm, image dimensions approx. 78 x 59 cm. Very good condition, frame with losses, corners bumped. Wilhelm Brandenberg (December 22, 1889 in Essen - January 8, 1975 in Krefeld) was a German painter of the Düsseldorf School and New Objectivity. He was a student of Spatz, Junghanns and Münzer (master student), as well as a member of the artist communities ”Der Malkasten” and ”Künstlergruppe 49”. From 1945 he was a teacher at the Folkwang School in Essen. Brandenberg created several still lifes, a few portraits, mainly landscapes, including many industrial paintings, river and city views as well as prosaic garden scenes in a New Objectivity style characterized by Impressionist painting techniques. He is represented in the Folkwang Museum in Essen, the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum in Krefeld and the Bavarian State Painting Collections in Munich.
