Biedermeier portrait of a boy with a fawn, oil on canvas, 19th century - A portrait of a young man from the Biedermeier period, executed in oil on canvas. The depiction shows a bust-length portrait of a boy holding a young fawn protectively in his arms. The sitter is wearing a dark blue jacket with prominent brass buttons over a white shirt with a characteristic wide stand-up collar. The painting is rendered in an academic, naturalistic style, with finely modelled flesh tones and a calm, focused gaze from the boy addressing the viewer directly. The work is stretched over a wooden stretcher frame with wooden edges. On the reverse of the frame, there is a handwritten mark in red chalk which can be read as 101 S; other inscriptions are illegible. The painting is set in a richly decorated, gilded ornate frame with relief corner and centre ornaments in the Rococo style. Frame 65 x 57cm
