In original triangular wooden frame. 75 x 60 cm. Alexander Hubert von Volborth (1885 in Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire - 1973 in Biberach an der Riß) was a German-Russian landscape painter. He studied painting at the academies in Stuttgart, Düsseldorf and Berlin. His teachers included Anton von Werner, Max Slevogt, Joseph Scheurenberg and Arthur Kampf. In 1912, he played a prank on the expressionist Max Pechstein by sending him caricatured drawings as supposedly modern works for publication - much to the amusement of conservative art critics. As early as 1911/12, he had illustrated Marie Charlotte Siedentopf's fairy tale book ”Der Elfenraub” in Art Nouveau style. In 1933, von Volbort joined the NSDAP, but was expelled from the party in November 1934.
