Richard Aich (1886, Geislingen - 1975, Ulm) - Dance in Balance - Richard Aich (1886, Geislingen - 1975, Ulm) - Dance in Balance Mixed media / gouache on paper. Framed in a passe-partout under glass. Image size 63 x 49 cm. Frame size 91 x 72 cm. From the artist's estate. In a colourful, abstract figurative composition, lines and surfaces condense into two dancing figures. Rhythmic colour contrasts and exciting shapes create movement and dialogue, while abstraction leaves room for different interpretations. The work combines constructive rigour with expressive lightness and makes dynamism the central theme of the picture. Richard Aich was born in Geislingen am Heuberg near Balingen. After studying at the Stuttgart School of Applied Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, he initially worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist, including for Simplicissimus, and later as an art teacher. During the First World War, Aich worked as a war painter in Macedonia. His works were used for military reconnaissance and sent to the army command in Berlin for evaluation. In addition to strategically important depictions, he also produced numerous paintings of the landscape, people and everyday life in the region, reflecting his interest in the country and its culture. After the war, Aich worked as a portrait painter and designed the interiors and exteriors of secular and ecclesiastical buildings in southern Germany. His later works include the restoration of the façade painting on Ulm Town Hall.
