He worked as a painter, graphic artist, architect and artist. As a painter, he primarily created landscapes, bucolic scenes and nudes; as an architect, he designed and built summer houses and bathhouses and was also responsible for their furnishings (e.g. on the Danube near Klosterneuburg). During his time as a student at Realschule (secondary school) in Bielitz, Gross took private painting lessons with J. Glasner, otherwise he was self-taught. In Vienna, he studied at the Technical University with S. Theiss, F. Krauss and K. Mayreder. Study trips took Gross to Czechoslovakia, Dalmatia, Italy and southern France. In 1921 he took part in an exhibition at the Vienna Galerie Würthle and was a guest in the Hagenbund for the first time; from 1924 to 1938, he was a member. In 1938, Gross emigrated to England. London became his permanent residence. There he became a member of the “Royal Society of Architects”.
