Pnei Yehoshua. Frankfurt am Main [C. 1760]. Special Title Page
Pnei Yehoshua - novellae on Tractate Berachot and Seder Moed by the gaon Rabbi Ya'akov Yehoshua Falk - rabbi of Lvov, Berlin and Frankfurt, who is known by the name of this book before us, as "The Pnei Yehoshua." Special edition.
Before us is the second edition, printed just a few years after the first edition, with revisions. The title page is similar to the rare, special title page that was printed in the first edition where the author's desire to ascend to the Land of Israel is indicated: "May it be His will that he succeed in bringing his thoughts into practice, as his heart desires to dwell in the Holy Land ..."
A Chassidic story testifies to the greatness of the Pnei Yehoshua. When the Ba'al Shem Tov was informed by Heaven that for the sake of his soul's benefit he had to serve as true Torah scholar, he went to the Pnei Yehoshua for a while to serve him - despite the fact that the Pnei Yehoshua was considered a 'Mitnaged.'
