Orchot Chaim. First Edition. Copy that Belonged to Rabbi Meir Shapiro. Stamps - Orchot Chaim - halachahs for every day of the year, by Rabbi Aharon HaKohen of Lunel. Florence, 1750. First edition. Personal copy of the gaon Rabbi Meir Shapiro, rosh yeshivah of Chachmei Lublin and initiator of the Daf Yomi. First edition of a comprehensive work; the author was one of the most prominent Rishonim . This volume is the one parallel to Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim. The other parts were printed only 150 years later. Written just a few years before Arba Turim, there are those who maintain that this is the reason Orchot Chaim was pushed aside and not received as the primary work of practical halachah. However, Rabbi Yosef Karo and all major poskim quote it extensively. On the title page, there are two early owner's signatures by the Mahara”m Shapira in his capacity as av beit din of Pietrkov, and a stamp from Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin's beit akad sefarim . As is known, Rabbi Shapiro did not have any children of his own. He gifted his personal library to the Chachmei Lublin yeshivah, which he founded. Two hard-to-decipher rabbinic signatures on the title page. Hundreds of handwritten glosses throughout the book's leaves. Leaves 107 and 108 are lacking and were completed by hand. Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of Rabbi Meir Shapiro . [4], 121, [1] leaf, 29 cm. Leaves 107 and 108 are lacking and were completed by hand. Stefansky, Sifrei Yessod 247.
