'Meggilat Kohelet' - First Biblical Work by Moses Mendelssohn. Berlin, 1770
"Meggilat Kohelet with a short and sufficient elucidation for understanding what is written in its most basic meaning ..." by Moses Mendelsohn, with the text. Berlin, Isaac Speier Press, 1770.
This is apparently the first book by Mendelsohn from his famous work on Tana"ch. It aroused a huge controversy that lasted hundreds of years after its publication. The book was published anonymously, however Mendelsohn revealed himself as the book's author 13 years later (in 1783) in the preface to his book Netivot HaShalom. Important approbations at the beginning of the book from three German rabbis.
[9], 41 leaf. 18.5 cm. Antique signatures and stamps.
Moderate-fine condition. Many aging stains. Worming perforations in the gutter margins of many leaves, far from the text. Old binding, somewhat worn.
