Historic Letter from the End of the Holocaust, Entirely Handwritten by Rabbi Aharon Kotler

Rare historic letter written just after the conclusion of WWII. It deals with assisting survivors of the camps, with an emphasis on bnei yeshivah. The letter is entirely written and signed by the leading rosh yeshivah in America and president of the Council of Torah Sages, the mighty gaon Rabbi Aharon Kotler. Sent to his associate the gaon Rabbi Zeidel Siemiatycki. Friday of the week "Mah Tovu" is read, 1946. Lakewood.

"I did not write to [you] this whole time due to my deep involvement, to an unimaginable extent" - so opens this letter written by the gaon Rabbi Aharon Kotler, written, as mentioned, in 1946, while the Holocaust survivors were still in the DP camps across Europe. Along the entire length of the letter, Reb Aharon details the goals of the funds, how they are transferred, names of the donors and the messengers, etc, etc. Important and fascinating historic letter.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of Rabbi Aharon Kotler.

In the first years after Rabbi Aharon's arrival in the United States, he dedicated his time to rescuing yeshivah students who remained under Communist rule and then under German occupation. He was an active member of the American rabbis' Va'ad Hatzalah, which dealt with rescuing Jews. This letter deals with these - but not only these - historic topics.

It is appropriate to point out here the fact that this letter was not written on a Lakewood yeshivah stationery blank, despite the letter being dated approximately three years after Rabbi Aharon founded the yeshivah. We will also point out that letters in Rabbi Aharon's handwriting are extremely rare relative to his printed letters, which are uncommon themselves.

[1] leaf paper, 21x27 cm. High-quality paper. Entirely handwritten and signed by Rabbi Aharon.
