Birkat David by the Gaon of Butschatsch, First Edition. Lvov, 1845. Special Variant

Sefer Birkat David - Chassidic elucidations on Sefer Bereishit by the Admo"r Rabbi Avraham David Wormahn of Butschatsch. Lvov, 1845. First edition. Special variant.

On the title page: Jihdas Rosanis Press, 1800. The name of the press and the two dates (which contradict each other) are fraudulent. The true date of printing is hinted at in the publisher's signature at the end of the book, in which he emphasizes the words ’תהלה לאלהי דוד’ - a chronogram for 1845.

This type of fraud was carried out in Chassidic works printed in Galicia at that time due to censorship and persecution of the Chassidim by the maskilim. [A. Ya'ari lists 16 books that contained this type of forgery. Regarding this phenomenon, refer to A. Ya'ari, "Beit Defus HaRabbanit Rosanis BiLvov, " Kiryat Sefer, 17, 1940, p. 107 no. 43.]

In the page on the other side of the title page, the sentence "Torat Hashem Temimah" is printed in large letters, and under it is a note that the approbations were not printed "for the hidden reason." Apparently, omission of the approbations was part of the camouflage of the printing details for the same reason, as aforementioned.

There are several known variants of this book. This is a special variant - in the margins of the title page, there are two lines added in German: The title of the book, where it was printed, and the name of the press. It is a third copy listed by Mif'al HaBibliographiah per a copy in a private collection.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the author, the Admo"r Rabbi Avraham David Wahrman of Butschatsch.
