Sefer Semichat Chachamim - Both Parts - Frankfurt am Main, 1704-1706. Pedigree Copy

Sefer Semichat Chachamim Part I - Birkat Hashem - Hakdamat Semichat Chachamim, and Part II,  Kedushah U'Vrachah - novellae on Tractate Berachot, by the gaon and Kabbalist Rabbi Naftali HaKohen Katz, av beit din of Frankfurt am Main. Frankfurt am Main, 1704-1706. First edition. Incomplete copy.

Renowned book by the gaon and Kabbalist, Rabbi Naftali Katz, printed in his lifetime. Includes: Semichat Chachamim, Hakdamat Semichat Chachamim, naming the sedarim,  the tractates and their juxtapositions. Kedushah U'Vrachah - novellae on Tractate Berachot.

This is the author's first significant work. (He had previously printed just songs and selichot). This sefer, written in his first year serving in the Frankfurt rabbinate, revealed his tremendous abilities in both the revealed and the hidden, and especially his ability to integrate the two.

Owners' stamps: "Chaim Naftali son of Rabbi Avraham Binyamin, the youth Avraham Binyamin son of the gaon Moshe Yehuda Leib ztz"l of Jerusalem."

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for brief biographies of the author, the G-dly Kabbalist Rabbeinu Naftali HaKohen Katz, and Rabbi Avraham Binyamin Zilberberg.

This copy lacks the first title page for Sefer Birkat Hashem as well as the following leaf. The second part, Kedushah U'Vrachah, is fully complete and the title page is illustrated with an impressive artistic woodcut. It also has the rare leaf that was added after the book's printing, entitled "Omissions from the Glosses in Sefer Kedushah U'Vrachah." This leaf does not appear in all copies. Here, it was bound before the last leaf.

3-79; [1], 140, [1] leaf. 33 cm.

Moderate condition. Worming perforations. Aging stains.
