First Time at Auction: The Two Parts of the Sacred Segulah Book, Pele Yoetz, First Editions

"And if I merit viewing Hashem's pleasantness and contemplating his sanctuary, I will compensate well all who study my work ..." (the author's promise in his introduction)

Sefer Pele Yoetz by the sacred gaon Rabbi Eliezer Papo - one of the most important ethical works, accepted across all Jewish communities, translated into several languages, and found in every Jewish home. Two parts in two volumes. First editions, in the author's lifetime. Constantinople, 1824. Incomplete copy.

The author was known as a sacred person, and his grave in Bulgaria was a pilgrimage site before the Holocaust. Many would flock to this site on his yahrtzeit and at other times, and would experience salvation. The reason for this was that before his passing, he promised that anyone who would visit his grave site after ritual immersion, reciting Tehillim and prayers with proper intent, would experience salvation and mercy in all necessary areas. The renowned Kabbalist Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto, av beit din of Morocco, known as “The Tycoon’s Rabbi” renewed the tradition of going to his grave site in recent years. Many wealthy and common Jews go together with him in an airlift and tell of open wonders that occur there year after year.

The Chafetz Chaim was known to almost never mention mussar works in his various sefarim, but he refers to Pele Yoetz as "the beautiful work" ["החיבור הנחמד"]!

Regarding this work's segulah, the Pel"e writes many promises and blessings in his preface: "... I call on to you, my brothers, my people! Take this Torah work, and learn it to benefit yourselves. Listen, and your soul shall live, you will achieve joy and happiness in this world and in the next ... and I will also wish for all religious leaders who read my book and speak my words to the masses ... and perhaps the L-rd will grant that my work bears fruit ... And if I merit viewing Hashem's pleasantness and contemplating his sanctuary, I will compensate well all who study my work ..." Stories of many salvations in the merit of studying this sacred sefer are common in all circles.
