Post-Incunabula: Sefer HeAruch. Pesaro, Soncino Press.1517. Second and rare Edition
Sefer HeAruch - explanations of each challenging word in the Talmud by Rabbi Nathan bar Yechiel Maromi. Soncino Press, Pesaro, 1517.
Important work, a kind of wide-ranging comprehensive dictionary. One of the fundamental books of the Jewish library, mentioned very often in books by our rabbis, the Rishonim.
This is the first attainable edition. The book was first printed during the incunabula period in Rome c. 1430, however that edition does not survive in any free copies and is cannot be found at all. This here is the rare second edition of this important work.
Rare title page at the beginning of the book surrounded by the wide decorative border found in the ancient Soncino Press books. Colophon printed on the last leaf: "Completed on ... the 13th day of Adar in the Jewish calendar by the youth ... the smallest student of the Soncino family, residing in the Pesaro quarter ..."
Stefansky, Sifrei Yessod 525.
178 leaf, 29.5 cm. Antique stamps and notations. Gloss in Italian script on leaf 7.
Fine condition. Aging stains. The title page and the following five leaves are detached and were completed from another original copy. Professional artistic restoration to the white margins of the title page and the following leaf. Tiny tears in the white margins of the last three leaves.
