Kibbutz Dorot is situated in the northern Negev, near Sderot. It was established during Chanuka of 1941 on lands that were acquired from the nearby village, Hoj, by German immigrants who joined garinim (small groups of people planning to establish a new settlement) from Israel, Latvia and Czechoslovakia. Its name is composed of the initials of the three names of the Hoz family [Dov, Rivka, and Tirtza Hoz] who were killed in a traffic accident on the old Tel Aviv - Haifa highway. During the war of independence, the kibbutz was bombed daily by the Egyptian air force and they were forced to evacuate to Kibbutz Be'erot Yitzchak.
