A Non-Traditional Haggadah - Kibbutz Sdot Yam - Caesarea, 1949
A non-traditional Haggadah with illustrations.
Many original texts relating to the exodus from Egypt based on verses but in Biblical style: "Go and come to Egypt...and say to them that they are slaves - and they will not understand and say to them that they are miserable - and they will not know, as their poverty is great and their pains are terrible and their stress is awesome - and they will not believe, and you should open their eyes by force and redeem them...and you made man from worms, and from man - a nation and from sand dunes - a land..." and more.
Toward the end of the Haggadah are fascinating verses of poetry related to the ingathering of exiles, the War of Independence and the establishment of the State of Israel: "And a nation will arise - brokenhearted but breathing...to receive the miracle...and then the nation full of tears and magic will ask and say: Who are you? And the pair are silent, they will reply: we are the silver platter upon which you were given the Jewish state... we cannot believe that such wonders occurred and that all this happened in us and that we went from slavery to freedom. As foreign rule has ended in Israel as the tyrant's sword will no longer greet the remnants of our nation returning to Zion. For the seven enemies and their armies could not defeat us and the Israeli army won in all the battles and will push the enemy back and expel it from our border, for multitudes of people are returning from exile to our shores in joy, and the hopes of two thousand years are become realities, and the dream of the State of Israel is being fulfilled before our eyes." And more.
