Historic Discovery: Collection of Telegrams sent from Shanghai to the Free World During the Holocaust - Historic discovery, first publication: rare collection of [3] telegrams sent from Shanghai to the free world discussing rescue of the bnei yeshivah in Shanghai during the Holocaust years. Shanghai, Stockholm, [early 1940s] 1943-1944. These historic telegrams mention gedolei olam , Chassidim and Lithuanian alike, brought to Shanghai by Divine Providence. In the immediate post-Holocaust years, they rebuilt the worlds of Torah Chassidut with their own hands. These include Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz, the gaon Rabbi Shlomo Wolbe, the Admo”r of Amshinov, and others. * Telegram no 1: Special request for ”twelve rabbis” studying in Shanghai: ”Please send a special sum for 12 students: Yissachar, Kletzky, Reuven, [the Admo”r] of Amshinov, Neiman [the Neiman brothers who studied in groups], [R' Mordechai Menachem] Schwab, [only Leib] Malin, Kazak, and another three. The rest all receive the standard amounts - take from Chaba”d.” The person who signed this was ”Meir Mann” [we have not succeeded in identifying him]. The words that conclude the telegram are noteworthy - ”Take from Chaba”d” - is this a hint at discrimination against the Chaba”d students? There was a complaint from Chaba”d people at the time - that Va'ad Hatzalah was responsible for anti-Chaba”d discrimination, but the Va'ad resolutely denied this. This telegram may be the proof needed! =============== * Telegram no. 2: From the gaon Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz. The telegram is dated June  '43. In it the gaon Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz states that all the students at the yeshivah are studying Torah with tremendous diligence and enthusiasm. Rabbi Chaim, who officially dealt with financial issues for all the yeshivahs in Shanghai, appealed to the Jews of Argentina, who provided significant assistance to Va'ad Hatzalah. He updates them about what is going on in Shanghai, as follows. ”All the yeshivahs, even now [as the security situation has worsened] study with diligence and enthusiasm. We desperately need financial assistance for the Kaminetz and Telz yeshivahs, and even more so for Chaba”d, Beit-Yosef [Novhardok]; Kollel Kovno; Yeshivat Radin and 'Beit Ya'akov.' It is worth noting the gaon Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz's characteristic of nekiyut , in that he requests support for all the yeshivahs in Shanghai - Chaba”d, Kaminetz, Telz - all of them - except for his own yeshivah, Mir, which certainly suffered no less that the other yeshivahs, for which he asks nothing! ============= * Telegram no. 3: From the gaon Rabbi Shlomo Wolbe. Telegram from November of '44, in which the gaon Rabbi Shlomo Wolbe, who was then head of the Stockholm branch of Va'ad Hatzalah, appeals to the Jewish community in Montevideo, Uruguay, asking for financial assistance for several individuals. The Telegram addresses Rabbis Milevsky and Grosovsky. Rabbi Aharon Milevsky, rabbi of the Va'ad Ha”Ir synagogue, was ordained by two gedolei hador  - Rabbi Chaim Ozer and Rabbi A. Y. HaKohen Kook, and was very active in strengthening religious observance in the city. Rabbi Wolbe specifies in this telegram: ”the wife of [Rabbi Shmuel David] Warshavshik [later rosh yeshivah of Yeshivat Rabbeinu Ya'akov Yosef], who is gravely ill, and another, named Roshelvork, who has been ill for a long time.
