Rare Sacred Letter Handwritten by the Da'at Sofer of Pressburg about the Admo"r of Spinka
"To entrust him with the ordination of sages, which is befitting to him"
Sacred letter, rare and beautiful, entirely handwritten, signed and stamped by the renowned rabbi of Pressburg, the sacred gaon Rabbi Akiva Sofer, author of Da'at Sofer. Written just before his ascent to the Land of Israel, on rare stationery brought with him from Pressburg. The Da'at Sofer crossed out "Pressburg" as the place the letter was written, replacing it with "Jerusalem." 2 Cheshvan, 1941.
This letter was written at the height of the Holocaust. The Admo"r Rabbi Yosef Meir Kahane, son of the founder of the Spinka-Kahane dynasty and grandson of the Imrei Yosef of Spinka, escaped a burning Europe to the Land of Israel by the skin of his teeth. In Hungary, the Admo"r was known for his sanctity and his greatness in Torah, but in the Land of Israel, his greatness was yet to be revealed. In this letter, the Da'at Sofer publicly declares the great stature of the Spinka Rebbe, who he knew already from Hungary. He adds his own ordination for him to rule halachah, as granted to him by the gedolim in Hungary.
