Pair of Important Family Letters from the Sacred Gaon Rabbi Menachem Mendel Kahane of Kerestir - Pair of important family letters, handwritten and signed by the Admo”r Rabbi Menachem Mendel Kahane of Kerestir, beloved grandson and disciple of the sacred Rabbi Yeshayahleh of Kerestir, who drew him very close. He ate kest  at his grandfather's home for three whole years, from his marriage until Rabbi Yeshayaleh's passing. Homna, 1928-1933. The two letters are addressed to his renowned grandmother, ”the famous tzaddeket, ” Mrs. Sarah Shlomtzi, 'shlit”a.' This is none other that his maternal grandmother, Rebbetzin Sarah Shlomtzi (of Premishlan), daughter of the Rebbe Rabbi Menachem Mendel Eichenstein of Zhidichov, wife of the gaon and tzaddik Rabbi Baruch Rubin ztz”l of Kolomyya and Mamash-Ovar, av beit din of Brizdivitz. The letters are full of interesting historic family details about the Spinka dynasty, before the glorious family was cut down in one fell swoop. In his letter, the Kerestirer rebbe tells his grandmother about births in the family: ”My wife gave birth to a daughter during chol hamoed Pesach. I named her Rivkah.” The second letter relates, ”Yitzchak Yonah'leh is learning chumash well, Yosef Meir'l is not yet in cheder  ... Chaim Avrum'che is baruch Hashem  sweet as honey.” Unfortunately, these precious and pure children, princes of the Spinka and Kerestir dynasties, were killed along with the other members of their family by the animalistic Nazis and their Hungarian henchmen. These letters were sent from Europe to the Land of Israel. It may be that Rebbetzin Sarah Shlomtzi was Divinely inspired when she decided one fine day to leave everything behind and ascend to the Land of Israel - even leaving her husband and children in Europe. When the war broke out, she sent letters to her grandsons in which she promised to arrange certificates for whoever wanted to ascend to the Land of Israel. Two of the rebbe of Kerestir's brothers, Rabbi Yosef Meir and Rabbi Nachman, had not yet drawn followers, making it easier for them to leave Europe for the Land of Israel, indeed took advantage of this opportunity. A Jewish Agency worker who was a Zhidichover Chassid, upon hearing that Rebbetzin Sarah was a daughter of Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Zhidichov, obtained certificates for them. However, Rabbi Menachem Mendel, who already led a community in Homna, and, according to these letters, was caring for small children, delayed until it was no longer feasible to leave Europe, and he was killed at the head of his community together with his entire family whose names appear in these letters, may their blood be avenged.
