Historic Discovery: Three Original Semichah Letters for the Misgeret HaShulchan, Handwritten by Italian Sages. Livorno, 1813 - Three beautiful certificates of rabbinic ordination from the most prominent of Italian rabbis during the period of the Chid”a, granting rabbinic authority to the renowned gaon Rabbi Menachem Azariah Castelnuovo, one of the leading  poskim  in Italy and the author of the early work, Misgeret HaShulchan  (Livorno, 1840), extensively cited in halachic literature. Livorno, 1813. * Very beautiful  ktav semichah  written in lofty poetic language from the  av beit din  of Livorno (in place of the Chid”a), the gaon and Kabbalist Rabbi Ya'akov Nunes Vais, author of  Chedvat Ya'akov  - one of the Chid”a's closest associates and his successor to the Livorno rabbinate. Livorno, 1813. This is a beautiful and unique semichah , written in lofty poetic language, consisting almost entirely of  pesukim  and quotations '[”דיתיב ביני דנ”י]. On law and truth. He is measured and draws appropriate conclusions ... signed by he who serves the Livorno community. Chronogram: ז”ה הדו”ר בלבוש”ו. Tola'at Ya'akov Nunes Vais S”T.' * Under the letter from Rabbi Ya'akov Nunes Vais is another  semichah , from Rabbi Menashe Padua, one of Italy's leading rabbis, among those who granted permission to print  Sefer HaZohar , Livorno edition (1815). Livorno, 1813. After he relates the recipient's praises, and those of the rabbis who previously granted their approbations, he also grants him his own  semichat chachamim : ” Yoreh, yoreh, yadin, yadin , and his decision is the true law ... signed, he who speaks here in Livorno, in the year הוא יהיה לראש ... the youth Menashe Padua. * The second leaf bears rabbinic ordination in beautiful Oriental script from the wonder-worker of Tiberias, the sacred gaon Rabbi Chaim Shlomo Abulafiah, a grandson of the Etz Chaim and father of the settlement in Tiberias. Padua, 1823. These items are of huge historic value - the  kitvei semichah  of the gaon Rabbi Menachem Azariah Castelnuovo, one of the leading poskim  of Italy and author of the important works Misgeret HaShulchan  (Livorno, 1840) and Shu”t Emek HaMelech  (Livorno, 1865), and his responsa have been often cited ever since in halachic sefarim .
