Rare Sefer Haftarot [Western Germany, 18th Century] - Sefer Haftarot  for Shabbats, annual holidays, high holidays, for the arba parashiyot  and special Shabbats. Scribal script on parchment. Ashkenazic script. Vowelized with cantillation. Rolled like a meggilah. [Western Germany, 18th century.] Complete meggilah! The custom of writing all the haftarot in a sefer of their own is an early minhag , from the period of the amora'im . This custom is mentioned in the gemara in Tractate Gittin (leaf 60), called Sifra D'Aftarata . However, the custom was abandoned due to the severity of the prohibition of writing less than a complete sefer , as stated in the gemara, ”The sefer of haftarahs may not be used for reading on Shabbat. Why? Because it may not be written (less than a complete sefer  - Rash”i, there in Gittin). There are also communities at present with the custom of reading the haftarah from a parchment scroll. They read from a complete  sefer   Navi . This is a rare and early scroll, including the haftarot  in one sefer . Sheet width: Approximately 34 cm. Moderate-fine condition.Minimal tears and adhesions, primarily at the beginning and the end.
