The Fundamental Sefer of Kabbalah - the First Edition of the Zohar!

Sefer HaZohar L'Tanna HaEloki Rabi Shimon Bar Yochai on chamishah chumshei Torah: Bereishit, Shemot, Vayikra, Bamidbar and Devarim. Precise Mantua edition - first edition of Sefer HaZohar. [Mantua, 1558-1560]. Incomplete copies.

First edition of Sefer HaZohar. The Ar"i's glosses on Sefer HaZohar are written in the margins of Rabbi Chaim Vital's sefer. Rabbi Chaim Vital's glosses were revised about two hundred years later in the edition of the Zohar that was printed in Constantinople in 1736. However, there were those who protested changes being inserted into Sefer HaZohar, such as the author of Mikdash Melech, who objected, "Who can take the responsibility to decide, relying on his own opinion? This is a grave danger!" However the Chid"a was satisfied with the revisions that came from a sacred source - the living lion himself!
