Sefer Mitzvot L'HaRamba"m. Venice, 1550. Rare Edition. The Controvery Surrounding it Led to the Burning of the Talmud

Sefer Mitzvot L'HaRamba"m with Hasagot HaRamba"n and the Ra'ava"d, as well as glosses by Rabbi Meir Katzenelbogen of Padua. Venice, Marco Justinian Press. 1550.

Beautiful illustrated title page. Important printer's introduction on the back of the title page. Large picture of the Beit HaMikdash on page 24b, with the caption "The honor of this house will be great, the last than the first ... at Mr. Marco Antonio Justinian's household."

The sefer was printed as part of an edition of the Ramba"m printed by Justinian. His competitor, Bragadin, printed a similar edition about the same time. This ignited a dispute between the two printers, and the dispute was even brought to the Ram"a.

This conflict between the two Christian printers ended up causing the decree of the burning of the Talmud in Italy in 1553.
