Rare Letter [Approximately 150 Words] Handwritten by the Admo"r Rabbi Mosheleh of Stolin, May his Blood be Avenged, Son of the Yanuka of Stolin

Rare letter [approximately 150 words] handwritten and signed by the Admo"r HaK' Rabbi Moshe Perlow of Stolin, son and successor of the most sacred Rabbi Yisrael Perlow, "The Yanuka of Stolin" [Stolin, Belarus], parashat ki Tisa [year written not indicated].

This letter was sent to the gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky's right-hand man, Rabbi Aharon Barak, administrator of the Va'ad HaYeshivot of Vilna and one of the leading disciples of the gaon Rabbi Shimon Shkop. In his letter, the Stoliner Rebbe relates to the Va'ad HaYeshivot the financial straits of his yeshivah, and he pleads with the Va'ad HaYeshivot to help him bear this difficult burden. The rebbe complains in his letter about the funds deducted from the donations collected for the yeshivah. Inter alia, the Rebbe writes: "I could not come to terms with writing such nonsense."

The sacred Rebbe, known to all Jews for his merciful heart, takes advantage of the great closeness to the addressee, Rabbi Aharon Barak, to his teacher and rabbi, the gaon Rabbi Shimon Shkop, and asks him to make the effort for the bearer of this letter "Rabbi Mordechai Chazan" to help him be accepted into the Grodno yeshivah [led by the gaon Rabbi Shimon Shkop], because he has risen above and beyond his age group in his sharpness and breadth of knowledge ... May he reach ever higher."

This letter characterizes well the Admo"r Rabbi Mosheleh of Stolin's lofty personality. His days were always filled with Torah and chessed. It bears the signature of the sacred Rebbe, who was known for his open Divine inspiration and his blessings that were always fulfilled. He signs in his name and the name of his fathers, "[Your] friend, the small one, who blesses you to be inscribed and sealed for the good, Moshe son of the sacred Rabbi Yisrael, ztz"l."
