Exceptionally Rare Leaf – First Printing of ”Hodu” and ”Kegavna” – Korets 1785 - The First Known Printing of ”Hodu” (Psalms 107) and ”Kegavna” as Recited in Chassidic Communities on Erev Shabbat A single rare leaf from the first Chassidic prayer book ever printed Historical Significance This extraordinarily rare leaf contains the first recorded printing of ”Hodu” (Psalms 107) and ”Kegavna”, which are recited in Chassidic communities at the entrance of Shabbat. Printed in the first Chassidic Kabbalistic prayer book – Siddur Mishnat Chassidim, Korets, 1785 (תקמ”ה). It was previously assumed that this Chassidic practice was first printed in Rabbi Asher Margaliyot’s Siddur, Lviv, 1788 (תקמ”ח). However, recent research confirms that it first appeared in print in 1785 in Siddur Mishnat Chassidim. The title page of Mishnat Chassidim explicitly states: ”We have also added the Selichot for BeHaB, the 'Raza D’Shabbat' (the term used for Kegavna), and Psalm 107.” Yet, in many copies of the Siddur, this leaf is missing—leading bibliographers to mistakenly conclude that Hodu and Kegavna were not printed despite being mentioned on the title page. This suggests that this leaf was only included in some copies and was likely printed separately and inserted into select editions. Condition: Fair to Good. Tears, stains, and some repaired damage. One tear has been reinforced with adhesive. Exceptionally Rare Find A truly historic and bibliographically significant discovery, shedding new light on the earliest Chassidic liturgical practices in print.
