On the title page, the stamp of Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer. Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer (1788–1897) , rabbi of Eisenstadt, one of the great rabbis of his generation, and a leader of Orthodox Jewry in Ashkenaz. A prominent disciple of Rabbi Yaakov Ettlinger, author of *Arukh le-Ner*. In 1851, he was appointed rabbi of the Eisenstadt community and served as its head of the yeshiva. In 1869, he became the rabbi of the ”Adat Yisrael” community in Berlin, where he also founded a yeshiva. In 1874, he established a rabbinical seminary that trained generations of rabbis and leaders. Rabbi Azriel was known for his work on behalf of German Jews and world Jewry in general, as evidenced by the letter in front of us. He was also referred to as ”Nasi Eretz Yisrael.” Some of his Torah innovations were printed in books: *She’elot u-Teshuvot Rabbi Azriel*, *Chidushim Rabbi Azriel*, and others.
