”And May He Merit Great Health and Success”: A Moving Letter from the Wonder-Worker, Rabbi Yehuda Zev Segal - ”R’ Yudel has the power of blessings after the Steipler!” (Rabbi Elazar Menachem Shach, HaMevaser Newspaper) A remarkable letter handwritten and signed by the wonder-worker, the saintly Rabbi Yehuda Zev Segal, Rosh Yeshiva of the Manchester Yeshiva. His gravesite in Manchester has, in recent years, become a pilgrimage site for thousands and a place where many prayers are answered. Manchester, 1972. The letter was sent to Rabbi Ben Zion Brook, Rosh Yeshiva of Novardok in Israel, in connection with Rabbi Brook's trip to America to raise funds for his yeshiva. Rabbi Yehuda Zev Segal provides addresses and phone numbers of donors and benefactors, including members of his family and students in America, to assist Rabbi Brook in his fundraising journey. Despite himself leading a large yeshiva, Rabbi Segal goes to great lengths to help Rabbi Brook gather funds for the Novardok Yeshiva, sharing contacts and resources without any concern that it might reduce donations for his own Manchester yeshiva. Rabbi Segal notes in the letter that he has written to his acquaintances in America asking them to assist Rabbi Brook as much as possible. Additionally, he invites Rabbi Brook to England, promising to personally help him raise substantial amounts for his yeshiva there. [1] Sheet of paper, 25 cm. Rabbi Yehuda Zev Segal (1911–1993) was a brilliant scholar and the Rosh Yeshiva of Manchester. The son and successor of the pious Rabbi Moshe Yitzchak HaLevi Segal, he upheld the growth of Torah in England. In his youth, he sought out Torah greatness, studying at the Mir Yeshiva in Lithuania, where he partnered in learning with Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz, Rosh Yeshiva of Mir. He also visited Radin several times to learn from the saintly Chafetz Chaim, considering himself one of his most devoted disciples. Rabbi Yehuda Zev was renowned as a ”wonder-worker” and earned the titles ”The Chafetz Chaim of England” and ”The Second Chafetz Chaim.” He attributed his miracles and blessings to strengthening observance of shemirat halashon (guarding one's speech), famously saying, ”I have never known a family in which the daily study of two laws from the Chafetz Chaim did not bring visible blessings.” Thousands from around the globe sought his blessings for health, success, and salvation, and his words were rarely left unanswered. To this day, countless Jews visit his gravesite in Manchester to pray for Divine mercy and assistance.
