A fine handwritten manuscript – Sefer HaPizmonim – Aleppo (Aram Tzova), second half of the 19th century
A fine handwritten manuscript in a small format. A large collection of approximately 250 [!] bakashot (supplications) and piyyutim (liturgical poems) by various poets and composers throughout the generations, some of which have become classics. [Aleppo (Aram Tzova), second half of the 19th century]. Neatly written by a skilled scribe, with colorful headings and opening words.
Eastern *Shirat HaBakashot* (supplicatory poetry) is renowned for its unique charm and has been highly esteemed. Many of the piyyutim were sung (some are still sung today) in synagogues, at Shabbat meals, and during joyous occasions. This is a very large collection of approximately 250 piyyutim, some of which are unknown.
The authors of these piyyutim were the rabbis and sages of the great city of Aleppo (Aram Tzova) in Syria.
Approximately [264] pages, of which about [200] are written. Approx. 13 cm.
Condition: Good. The first two pages have minor tears (restored), with a small loss of a few words. Half-leather binding, characteristic of Aleppo manuscripts.
