Zhitomir, printed by the Shapira Brothers. 1862. First Edition. First edition published during the lifetime of the holy author. At the beginning of the introduction, the author wrote: ”Many yearn and thirst to benefit from the pearls of Torah teachings that God has inspired me with, to awaken the hearts of the people of Israel to His service from the depths of their hearts and souls…” At the conclusion, he blesses readers: ”May they merit all blessings—children, life, sustenance, and all blessings promised by His prophets—and may we see the rebuilding of Zion and Jerusalem with the coming of Messiah, son of David, speedily in our days.” It is well known that the books of Rabbi David of Tolna are unique, as he personally authored, published, and printed them. Rabbi David of Tolna (1808–1882), the sixth son of Rabbi Mordechai of Chernobyl and disciple of Rabbi Avraham Yehoshua Heschel of Apta, served as Admor in Vasylkiv before relocating his court to Tolna due to persecution by the authorities. Tolna became one of the great centers of Chassidut in Ukraine.
