A Large Volume of Unpublished Manuscript Novellae by a Rabbi Descended from the 'Gur Aryeh' – Not Printed - A large and thick manuscript volume [the size of a Talmud volume] containing halachic and aggadic novellae and sermons, written by a rabbi in Europe during the Holocaust period, a descendant of a rabbinic dynasty, and a scholar of great stature. Late 19th century–early 20th century. The manuscript is written partly in Hebrew and partly in German language. The first page contains a summary of the sermons, and at the beginning of the first sermon [in a foreign language], a Hebrew note reads: ”F.F. [Frankfurt?], half of Tammuz and half of Av, 1933”. Some of the sermons are dated: ”Shevat 1936,” etc. Some also indicate the reason for their writing, such as: ”On the yahrzeit of my honored father, of blessed memory” ”Yahrzeit of my grandfather, R' Yitzchak ben Avraham, of blessed memory, 10 Nissan 1935” ”On the night of 7 Kislev 1946, the yahrzeit of my grandfather, the 'Gur Aryeh, ' may his merit protect us” – referring to the renowned Rabbi Aryeh Leib Kalish, Av Beit Din of Amsterdam, author of 'Gur Aryeh', who passed away on 7 Kislev 1710. The identity of the author is unknown, but the titles of the sermons provide extensive information about his rabbinic lineage, which may allow for further identification. For example, ”The yahrzeit of my grandmother, the rabbanit of Kirchdorf” [perhaps the wife of the famous disciple of the Chatam Sofer, Rabbi Pesach Zinger, Av Beit Din of Kirchdorf, about whom the Chatam Sofer said: ”There is no 'Pesach Sheni' in our times”].
