The Book of Segulot – A Rare Manuscript by the Rishon LeZion, Rabbi Chaim David Chazan - A rare manuscript of Sefer HaSegulot, authored in the handwriting of the Rishon LeZion, Rabbi Chaim David Chazan. The manuscript is written on what appears to be his personal letterhead, with several pages bearing the printed title: Lishmi Rishon LeZion Chaim David Chazan S”T (for his name, Rishon LeZion, Chaim David Chazan, may he be preserved in righteousness). Rabbi Chaim David Chazan, famously known by the unique acronym ”ḤaD B'Dara”, was born in Izmir in 1791 to his father, Rabbi Raphael Yosef Chazan, the Av Beit Din of Izmir and author of Chikrei Lev. In 1840, he was appointed as the Chief Rabbi of Izmir, a position he held for fifteen years. In 1855, he ascended to the Land of Israel, and following the passing of the Rishon LeZion, Rabbi Chaim Avraham Gagin, in 1861, he was appointed in his place and led the Sephardic Jewish community with great distinction until his passing in 1869. He was the Uncle of the renowned Rabbi Chaim Palagi. His published works include: Torat Zevach (Salonika, 1857) Yitav Lev (Izmir, 1868) Yashrei Lev (Izmir, 1870) She'elot u-Teshuvot Nadiv Lev, two volumes (Salonika, 1862 - Jerusalem, 1866) Glosses on Chikrei Lev, the work of his father. [24] leaves, written on both sides, containing numerous annotations and diagrams, 20 cm. Condition: Moderate-Good. The manuscript underwent professional restoration. Some tears with missing text have been artistically restored with blank paper inserts.
