Vilna, 1881. First Edition. - About the Author: Rabbi Yom Tov Lipman HaKohen (known as Rabbi Lipa Mirer) (1821-1893) served as Av Beit Din of Mir. He became widely known by the name of his sefer, Malbushei Yom Tov. His grandfather, Rabbi Yom Tov Lipman Halperin, was the Av Beit Din of Kapoli, and the author of Kedushat Yom Tov, Tossefet Kedusha, and Melechet Yom Tov. His Rabbinic Career: After his marriage, he was appointed Rabbi of Shumyach, serving there for 11 years. He later served briefly as Rabbi of Chaslavich, but after a major fire, he was appointed Rabbi of Mir, where he served for 18 years. It was in Mir that he published this sefer, Malbushei Yom Tov, establishing his reputation as a Torah genius. His Mastery of All Torah: According to Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Ya’ir, the biographer of Rabbi Yisrael Meir HaKohen of Radin (the Chafetz Chaim), an exchange once took place: When the Chafetz Chaim had a discussion on the Kodshim laws with Rabbi Elazar Moshe Horowitz, an expert in the field, he was asked: ”Have you ever met someone else as knowledgeable as yourself in this area?” The Chafetz Chaim replied: ”Rabbi Lipa Mirer, who is also a Kohen, knows more than I do!
